He is a Senior Dan CSKA Certified Level A Instructor & CSKA Level A National Official.  An NCCP Level 1 Coach; CSKA National Team Coach ā€‹ and year 2000 Senior Male Champion Kata & Kumite AJKA California.


Hanshi John Hanratty

Head Instructor - CSKA 8th Dan

Hanshi 8th. Dan John Hanratty has been training and teaching Shotokan Karate for over 40 years. He is Head Instructor to the Canadian Shotokan Karate Association; acting Vice President of the World Shotokan Karate Association as well as Technical Chairman Shotokan Alliance International.

For 12 years Sensei Hanratty was the Provincial Coach for Karate Alberta, the provincially recognized body for all styles Karate. He was elected 3m coach of the year in 1989 and was nominated for Air Canada Sportsman Award. He has received a Distinguished Citizen Award from the City of Calgary for services to sport.

Hanshi Hanratty is recognized as one of the top instructors and in North America. His motivational skills, communication and teaching methods, plus an in depth knowledge of Karate history, application and technique, have him in demand to teach throughout Europe and North America. He has been teaching in the Calgary area for 30 years, 27 years in the same location.
